Another Reason Why Rails Are Better Than Rods
I had just arrived at AMOREA's monthly club launch which is about an hour's drive for me (if you drive the speed limit). When I got out of the truck I heard a loud hissing noise.
Now, let me back up and preface this with the fact that about a week earlier I had picked up a screw or nail in one of my tires. I hadn't had time to get it properly fixed yet, but as long as the object wasn't removed there didn't seem to be any immediate threat. As you may have guessed, the object had been dislodged sometime during my trip.
Thinking quickly, I dug into my supply of rail buttons and grabbed an attachment screw and screwdriver. I'm sure I must have gotten some horrified looks as I set about purposefully driving this screw into my tire. But it held for the moment, and apparently has survived the drive home just fine. So, now I have another week before I have to visit the tire doctor. ;-)
Anyway, the moral of this story is, I'm positive that the end result would have been quite different if I had tried this repair using a launch lug. :-) Once again, rail technology saves the day.
My new motto: "Rails... no more rod-whip... no more flat tires..."
